WANGDUE PHODRANG
Altitude: 1,310m / 4,300ft.
Wangdue Phodrang is the last western town on the highway before central Bhutan. Wangdue Phodrang (or Wangdue) is a typical small Bhutanese town. It has a bustling market with well stocked shops and a pretty view of the valley and dzong.
On your way to Trongsa or when going to Punakha you will see the
spectacular view of a Magnificent Dzong, which is built in a hill,
towering over the valley below, and giving a wonderful view of the river
below, is Wangdue Dzong.
Not a very big place, but has it's own unique beauty, and the
location of the Dzong itself, will make you wonder, how was it built,
and leave you gasping at it's beauty.
Wangdue Phodrang's formidable dzong is the town's most visible
feature. The road from Wangdue to Trongsa is one of the prettiest in
Bhutan, passing streams, forests and villages before climbing to the
Pelela pass and on to the dramatic Trongsa Valley.
